About Africa Centre Scotland

Africa Centre Scotland (ACS) is an organisation located in the heart of Edinburgh's Old Town, The Royal Mile. The Royal Mile runs from the Edinburgh Castle at the top of the castle rock, down to Hollyrood Abbey where the new Scottish Parliament is situated.

ACS is a registered charity and Unincorporated Association recognised by The Office for the Scotland Charity Regulator (OSCR).

Despite the fact that Africans have been living in Scotland well before the 1990's, many Africans and Caribbean's were facing, exclusion, marginalisation, and discrimination in many areas. Subsequently, in 1993, determined Africans set up the organisation, now known as Africa Centre Scotland (ACS) in 1997. However, it was only in 1997 the organisation drafted its constitution ratifying it in 1998.

Therefore, the foundation of ACS was to challenge the discrimination and marginalisation of people of African heritage while creating an awareness of the different problems they face. ACS is also about promoting and maintaining a positive image of Africans and working towards their effective integration into Scottish community.
